Any vendor in the UK ship to USA?
« on: 21 August 2010, 13:00:20 »

Hey guys, just wondering which vendors in the UK ship to the US? Yet again, I'm having trouble finding a timing component kit (Belt, tensioner, idlers, seals) at a good price.

Every seller in the US tries to rape Catera owners, and I don't find it fair mainly because these cars were mass produced, and parts are plentiful. For example.... A timing kit with the belt, tensioner, and idlers is $220 USD.

GAH!  >:(

Ah ha! I found a place.... I sent them a email asking if they will ship to the US.

http://www.vauxcentre.co.uk/index.php?option=categories&category_id=157060&prodCnt=12&sort=

BUT, which timing kit is mine? I know it's one of the 2 that have the large tensioner, and not the one on the right with the small tensioner.

I have bought parts from this outfit

http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/

And can recommend them. If you are likely to be getting more items in the future then you could maybe set up an arrangement with them. they even take paypal. You may find they would only want to send stuff insured. That is the killer with having things shipped to Spain from England. When(if?) it gets lost which postal service is responsible for it.

I have looked at items from the USA and the postage has been truly shocking but I guess they are coming much further!

Which engine is your catera fitted with ?

Ok, I'm also seeing that these vendors want an engine number..... where can I find that? Is that the last few digits of the VIN, or is it actually on the engine?

It's on the actual engine. We have the engine number on our V5 - the vehicle registration document, so I think most just look there. H21 posted a picture of it a looooong time ago, our passenger side/your drivers side exhaust manifold area seems to ring a bell  :-/  :-/  :-/

Nah, I may be forced to buy one, mainly because the only person that rents them that I know of wants a $300 refundable deposit, and I simply don't have that kind of money laying around to loan someone until I return the kit. I wish there was someone that loans them out for free.... it's not like I'm gonna steal it or sell it.  ::)

I paid £50 for mine from ebay - second hand Sykes Pickavant, - I'm sure shipping to the States wouldn't be that much  :-/  :-/

Yeah, I looked on UK ebay with no luck.

Too bad it's not a SOHC straight 6, that would be a heck of a lot easier to do.
