Mondeo question
« on: 08 March 2015, 21:09:38 »

Nust had a phone calll from a friend, timing belts gone, 1.8 1995, hes been quoted 250 to cix it, zo asked my opinion which was, its probabley 16v so I reckon its game over, if its 8v might have got away with and shod be  cheaper.

I reckon Garage is just after the work and will then ask for more if they find bent valves.

Any thoughts or further advice?

Sorry for spelling on the mobile

Is that £250 a firm quote? If it is, and the car is otherwise OK, he should be standing over them waving the cash whilst they do it.

if is 16valve then that's sound cheap as there will be some bent valves

Yea sorry. Should have clearer. They want 250 to fit a new belt. Sorry I said fix, so guesssing Garage is just trying it on. Point is I've no idea if a. 95 is 8 or 16v.

a '95 1.8 could be an 8v diesel, but that would have been in the original information. Wouldn't it? And a broken timing belt on one of those needs a replacement head and cam.
