Bloody saga insurace
« on: 19 June 2014, 10:10:27 »

My MIL( 72 yrs ) renewed her policy last month with saga but has just bought a new car. She called them on monday to change the vehicle and was told there was a computer error error and they couldn't do it and would call back. She had 2 days of calls backwards and forwards and got really upset/confused with it all and eventually spilled the beans to me as she is very independant. I called them yesterday and apparently there was a "Merlin error " on the original policy so they couldn't just swap the new car onto it so it would need to be a brand new policy set up >:( . The original was £ 220 and they quoted £356 for the new car which is a lower ins group and if she wanted to terminate the old policy there would be a £50 admin fee!  ....erm no there will not be as the error is on their part.

I got another quote of £235 and hit them with their price match policy as well as roasting them for causing so much distress but they didn't think they could match it >:(  I eventually got a grovelling call to say that due to their poor handling of the affair they would match the price. I categorically sought confirmation that their would be a crossover of the 2 cars so they could drive to the garage and pick up the new car and that the policy documents would be emailed to me yesterday, both of these were confirmed and cover would start at midnight.

On checking the insurance database this morning the car is not bloody insured, if I had not done this they would now be driving around in an uninsured car and could well have had it taken off them or god forbid had a crash. I'm now awaiting a call from the new business manager at Saga.....this call should be fun !

Sorry to hear of the hassle you and your MIL are going through at present.

Hopefully it will soon get sorted out and the whole episode will  become just a distant memory. :y

The MID can take several days to be updated so don't rely on what it tells you.

Good point, if they emailed the insurance certificate then you're OK!  :y
