none of the instruments and control indicator work
« on: 27 August 2010, 16:01:21 »

Hi everybody, I got an Omega B 3,2 two weeks ago and it seemed to be doing fine. This morning however none of the instruments (tachometer, speedometer, temperature gauge, fuel gauge) and the control indicator lights were working, only a battery symbol lighting up strongly. Under the car, I found a puddle of a pinkish colour. What could this mean? Thanks for your comments!

The pink liquid could very well be coolant. Where under the car was it?

Has the dash been disturbed for any reason recently?

Thanks, that's quick! I already suspected it's coolant, but it feels a bit greasy. The puddle is situated under the engine, near the radiator. Everything worked fine until this morning, don't know if anyone has touched the dash lately, not in the two weeks that I have had it!

Is it automatic transmission fluid?

I can't imagine how this might effect the electrics though  :-/

Check fuses 12 & 15 ;) ;)

These fuses covers many things, incuding the dash and indicator control.  It also covers the cooling fan, so there may just be a connection there with the fluid loss (???) ;) ;)

Oh dear! :o :o

You must have a leak to lose that much.  Feel around the HBV at the back of the engine ;) ;)

Yes, look through this guide and you will see the HBV (Heater Bypass Valve), with instructions how to replace if necessary:

 ;) ;)

I'm sorry to say, I had this problem (and since have found others who have had the same problem).

The circuit controls a lot of items in the car, so locating a fault is very time consuming.  I gave up in the end and ran a new fused live feed to everything it controls (Drivers Memory Seat, All Interior Lights, Dash Clocks, MID, Stereo, Climate Panel, etc etc).

About a fortnight after, my cambelt snapped  ;D

Have a look at these threads about my problem with fuse 15..

Does the engine stop when it blows ?

Mine was eventually traced to the drivers heated seat wiring rubbing on the seat frame. You can isolate that by disconnecting the heated seat feed down on the right hand side by the seat controls. But be careful the air bag and seat belt tensioners go through here as well.

No, the engine doesn't stop. Last time the fuse blew I had just turned on the radio, that was three days ago. I haven't turned the radio on since and everything has been fine, so far... Thanks all of you for your comments and hope the cambelt has been fixed!
By the way, the car and I, we are in Kuwait, where it has been over 50 degrees centigrade of late...
