Bearing
« on: 18 January 2010, 22:07:28 »

I have been hearing a whinning sound over a period of time. Today my miggy acted up. My mech says it is the connecting rod bearing. How do i ascertain that is it. What is the part number. Is it   the only thing i need to change.

Conrod bearings also known as little ends (at top of rod) and big ends (obviously at bottom) do not whine they clatter. I`d suggest removing auxiliary belt, run engine for about 30secs to eliminate any ancillaries i.e. alternator bearing, waterpump etc.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "acting up"

The mech changed the starter. But told me there was a knocking sound in engine. He added oil as he said it was a bit low to see whether it will stop. Interesting he said it did not stop.
He adviced that he will have to open the engine.

I am desperate pls help it is a pain being out of a vehicle. :-[ :-[ :-[

When the mechanic at the garage tells you anything you should always seek second opinion. They charge per hour, so have vested interest...
Do YOU hear any knocking?
What is the "whinning" sound? How often do you hear it? Where is it coming from?
