E30 325 sport with all the M trimmings on it, this was before the M3 had arrived and was considered the ultimate 3 series, i was early 20's with 9 points and was paying a fortune for the insurance on it

Mini Cooper 1275 S with the obligatory staright cut drop gears, LCB straight through exhaust, magnesium minilites, bucket seats and 4 poitn harnesses, pasically a point and squirt car, through traffic there wasn't much on 4 wheels that could catch it  :y

porsche 931 turbo, a cracking car that had a really bad reputation, 80's styling and 170bhp to boot at the rear wheels with 50/50 weight distribution, was a hoot to drive, no traction control or ABS but had the worse turbo lag i have ever seen, worse than the early saab 900's

Too highly tuned Mini Cooper S, straight cut box, LSD, minilights, ultralightweight body (perspex windows, no winders, no heater, trim and so on).  Ah those were the days. Nowadays any production car seems to be faster and handle better than the so called performance cars of the 60's and 70's.

I wished I still had them now.

Speaking of 600s, I once went on a gliding holiday with a guy who had a CBR600, IIRC. Over a beer one night, it transpired that I'd never ridden a bike and he'd never driven a car.

A plan was hatched which saw me giving his bike a bit of stick up and down the main runway, and, in return he did the same in my car - which was a Morris Ital 1.7HL Estate ;D

Somehow I think he got the raw end of that deal.

really good reading, thanks everyone! at least i'm not the only one to have had a montego turbo!! and only 1 of you mentioned senators, i've had a 3.0 12v cd and a 3.0 24v manual ex-plod, that died due to head gasket problems and the cost of a dual-mass fly wheel! one of my mates dylan had a mazda rx7 the rotary engine one that he's swapped for a 89 toyota celica that he now wants £300 for, i'm starting to get very tempted! it's mint and in black totally standard except for 17" alloys, it feels so light and nimble compared to the omega! but nowhere near as fast! i'll be starting my cam cover gaskets and breathers this weekend, just need to get a space in the workshop near the space-heater and i'll be fine!!! thinking back, i went through a phase of buying fiesta xr2's i must of had 6 or 7 of em, best one was a grey c-reg, standard when i got it except for it had been lowered, i fitted a kent cam kit, vernier cam pulley, k&n, 4into2into1 exhaust manifold, iridium plugs, high performance ht leads and coil, upper and lower front strut braces, peco big bore 4 ( remember them!!! ), it really shifted and cornered like a go-cart, i loved it! dont you wish you had photo's of all your old cars!!
