Not true at all. De catting will deffinately give you more power, as will removing the centre silencer boxes.
There is much debate about whether sports air filters are any goon on the omega, so its up to the individual to weigh up the pros and cons but with the exhaust work done it might be helpful. Then a remap afterward.

As for engines that would fit, I hear someone has stuck a 3.0 turbo straight 6 from a toyota supra in :D
A BMW straight 6 with a turbo is always an option (won't cause space and cooling issues). V8s I dont know much about, but the chevy small block 5.7 goes in supposedly, and is also very tuneable.

I tried de-catting , you really loose the low end torque..

you can play with heads.

playing with compression ratio will give better result together with bigger inlets..

also ecu remap is a good idea..

and I must add v6 cooling system is not adequate for serious mods..

so if you are after serious power increase go for another engine which will be more economical than modding x30xe .. :-/
