Omega General Help / Unwanted 2.5td
« on: 19 October 2009, 00:10:17 »
Hi there. my GF currently has a 2.5td CD which has been unused/unloved since her purchase of an MX5 in April last year. The car has since run out of Mot and tax.  150ish thousand miles.
She used it daily to commute  35 miles each way.  It was used up unitl the purchase of her new car but did have a couple of issues.
Hot start was often a problem
Overheated in hot weather only (twice)- silted up rad?
Brake warning sensor on dash - no sensor wires in new pads fitted?
Coolent level warning on dash - checked and is topped up to correct level - could this be related to rad or maybe the sensor itself?

Car has leather interior w/ heated front seats and is tidy for the age on the outside. Couple of marks on the outside.
My question is essentially what is it worth? is it worth anything to anyone on here? worth repairing or selling for someone to break it for parts?
any advice would be really appreciated.
thanks, Jonny.  :)

How pressurised is the system when it's running hot? Is the cap blowing off at all?

The system seems fine with regards pressure and the cap hasn't blown off.

thanks for all the help so far guys. :)

Omega General Help / 2.5 TD Running very hot

Hi guys, just after some suggestions with regards my 2.5 Td running hot and regularly overheating.
I have replaced the thermostat and changed and flushed the coolant but still the same issue. It tends to overheat when under sustained load for example driving up a steady incline on a motorway or prolonged acceleration. You can just watch the temp gauge climb all the way to the red and overheat.
Any ideas guys? thanks for any help.

Omega General Help / Rear Shocks
« on: 09 September 2008, 19:07:21 »
hi guys, just after a bit of advice regarding rear shocks. I need to change them on a '99 2.5TD which i think you all affectionately refer to as 'the tractor'!  ;D
I understand many of you fit Bilsteins instead of the OEM ones. Is this wise?
Which would prove the cheaper? Vaux or Bilstein? And where should i source them from? What part number are they?

thanks for any input guys!

Omega General Help / 2.5 TD Exhaust
« on: 01 September 2008, 00:14:53 »
Hi guys, where should I source an exhaust for a '99 2.5 TD and what should I be paying for one? New or second hand?

so far been advised that exhaust centre sections have split and are corroded  - £194 quoted - is this too much?

thanks Jonny.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello!

Hello all. Thought I'd join seeing as we've just bought my girlfriend a '99 2.5 TD saloon as a daily hack/tow car for my track car.  In my experience its well worth joining clubs such as these for the fountain of knowledge available. So hello all  [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Nexen arent that bad. Had them on the rear of my M3 some years ago. Held up really rather well and were nice and progressive.
