Omega General Help / Re: 2.2dti emmissions light
« on: 14 July 2012, 14:09:24 »
Had the mechanic round and he's cleaned the EGR and the MAF - said they were gunked-up, so think I'll ask him to do them every year as a part of the service.  We'll see if it's sorted this weekend as we're taking the caravan out - so fingers crossed!

(Mechanic uses Tech 11 and he couldn't find a stored code withit - hence the cleaning option!)

Thanks all, consensus seems to indicate that I'll stick with 34F 36R unladen and 40F 45R laden with the tin-tent on!  Chris

Thanks for the replies - any thoughts on whether to increase the pressures when fully loaded with a caravan on the back? Chris

I've got 225 55 16 on my 2003 2.2 dti Estate so plan to run them at 34 F and 36 R normal use, but was wondering what do people recommend with a cravan on the back and luggage in the boot; I was thinking 40 F and 45 R (we usually try to get the caravan noseweight to about 75/80kgs) - Any thoughts?

Omega General Help / Re: Self Levelling Shocks
« on: 09 May 2012, 19:56:48 »
When we had our Elite estate I had the SL shox changed as we were towing a caravan whose jockey wheel was getting lower and lower! Got them through Trade Club, £75 sounds about right.  I think the compressor is at the front, so make sure all the pipework is not leaking; also, I seem to recall there is a level sensor switch near the back axle that switches the pump on and off to maintain the level.  You can check if its working if you're loaded up at the back by parking up and going for a coffee, come back and start up and see if the gap between the tyre and wheel arch increases as the car self levels. Regards,  Chris

Tunnie, that looks like some serious undercarriage modification on your 3.2 Elite!  ;)

Thanks Fergy  :y, I wondered if it was under the plastic trim, thanks for confirming that, I'll get some cleaner and give it a go and perhaps see if I can get the vac pipes tested as suggested on the other thread in case there is a leak developing.  Mechanic is fully trust worthy, he's serviced all our cars for the last 10 years and has read the codes of our previous Omega Elite no problem. He's the second mechanic who also said no code was stored, as the guy we had out when we first had the problem on the motorway said the same - hopefully can get it sorted before we take the caravan on the summer holiday treks! Regards, Chris

Thanks VXL V6, I'll have a word with the mechanic who has the code scanner and see if he's using the said kit.  Is the boost pressure sensor is on the turbo somewhere? but what's the MAF? Also, read somewhere on a forum that faults on the vac pipes/connections is best found with a smoke test? - anyone know what this is and how/who has to do it?  I'm a bit lost as to what my problem is as it only happened twice within 20 mins of each other on the motorway with the caravan on - and I can't get it to repeat - even by blasting up the motorway!  Chris.

Omega General Help / Re: Towing query.

Hi Tilbo,
Used to have Omega 3.0 litre V6 Elite estate - towed like a dream a single axle 1450kg caravan (4 berth) but changed it for a 2003 2.2 litre Diesel estate Dti which also tows the caravan effortlessly - and not so thirsty! Unfortunately I'm now trying to sort out an intermittant EGR valve problem (I think) with it, see here:

hopefully can get it sorted and I'll be happy again. Chris

Not tried anything yet, was thinking of either taking it off and cleaning it or replacing it, but had a quick look under the bonnet and can't even see it! - I'll have to ask Fergy where it is.  Idealy I'd like to use a blanking kit and get rid of it as that seems to be the long term cure but I'm struggling to determine if it's possible as there seems to be some doubt on this engine - typical!  Chris.

Thanks for the advice Fergy, think I'll give that a go, presumably can get carb cleaner from Halfords.  Also, had a look at the receipts from the last owner and found one for a replacement EGR valve that was only changed in Aug 2010, although not available from Vauxhall, Googled the part no. 424720500 and found it's available from Euro Parts: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Opel_Vectra_2.2_2002/p/car-parts/engine-parts/fuel-and-engine-management/engine-management-switches/?424720500&1&0306c9257778d575a0f17038dc82f3e78de1f445&000117 So, if it can be replaced can I just remove it and put a blanking kit in its place? Any thoughts? Chris.
