Omega General Help / Re: Automatic gearbox gear change
« on: 26 October 2009, 19:46:45 »
If you want the box to change down sooner downhill, you can slip it from D to 3, 2 & 1 for engine braking. This also has the added bonus of saving fuel when decelerating.

If its an Elite is should have it, so sounds like it's not working if you're trying over 30kph. Sometimes this can be resolved by disconnecting the battery for a bit to reset ECU's etc. otherwise it may need a Tech2 to diagnose.

Omega General Help / Re: Aircon prob ?
« on: 23 October 2009, 21:21:45 »
I first had this years ago with an Escort Ghia. It always gets worse this time of year as it gets cold and damp outside. This time of year I always run in eco mode so aircon doesn't come on.

If you drive down the slope & then onto a set of ramps, your car will stay level-ish!  ;D

I could - but that would mean I'd be blocking our road!  ;D

Sounds like a job for the garage at the next service then.

It's not a difficult job if you have a place where you can get your car up on ramps (& you're phyically able to get under the car  ;)). There's a couple of dozen M6 bolts holding the pan on, and another couple holding the switch in place on the pan itself.  :y

Cheers for that. Only 2 things stop me doing that though :( I know sod all about actually repairing cars - only diagnosing things - and my driveway is sloped!

Well I tried Lou's suggestion of topping up the oil, but message reappeared again today, so looks like the sensor's had it. Is it a big job to change?

Once your lower sump pan is off ...... no!  ;) You'll then need a tube of the Vauxhall instant gasket/glue to put it back on again with. You'll see how it comes off once the pan has been removed.

Sounds like a job for the garage at the next service then.

I might try that Lou. The only time it comes on my mig is when I have cruise control on over 60mph (usually I cruise it at 65), otherwise it confirms my suspicions that the sensor is duff - I seem to have a few of these electrical gremlins!

Thanks for the advice re. the actuator arms. I'll check them over too in the morning, or I'll get them looked at when I have the locking solenoid replaced on the drivers door.

Omega General Help / Check Oil Level
« on: 17 October 2009, 15:59:15 »
While on holiday I started getting a "Check Oil Level" message on the computer, usually while on the motorway. I have checked the oil dipstick and it is still on max, and while I was at it the transmission fluid and both were where they should be, so why is this message appearing? Is there something else I need to check? 'm not getting any dash lights appearing and operating temp is still around the 90C mark so no issues there.

Also what dows "Low Beam Fld/ Check" mean?

Thanks for that. Still a trip to Vauxhall to get the airbag fault diagnosed then  :(

No it was there when I bought it but today I noticed it no longer lights up.

Is the airbag light one that comes on at startup? It's no longer illuminating but I don't know if it's because the fault has rectified itself (loose connection) or the bulb has blown. It doesn't light up when turning on the ignition.

Airbag has never been replaced so would appear to be a sensor. When I get the car I'll get it checked out. I had this years ago on an Escort which turned out to be a loose conenction under the driver's seat.

That reminds me, are there any Tech2 owners in Norwich?

Omega General Help / Airbag light
« on: 20 September 2009, 19:21:03 »
I'm picking up a 2.5 Elite at the end of the week (woohoo  :)) on a '98 S-plate. It has a couple of small niggles. The air bag light stays on and the display says "Low-beam something-or-other" although all lights work. Any ideas?

Apart from that I'm well chuffed - only 117k full history up to 110k, cambelt only 19k old, new oil cooler gasket (stainless) and body work/interior overall is excellent. Glad I chose it -especially at £750!

I'll give it a polish and post some pics up next weekend.

Ok I'm looking at a 2.5 Elite on a 98-S plate tomorrow instead which is being sold locally. Price £795. It's done 118k and MoT/Tax until Feb. I'll have a look at service history tomorrow.
