Omega General Help / Re: fuel consumption
« on: 15 June 2010, 18:34:21 »
According to my on board computer I get 21.5 mpg commuting to work (mainly town driving). However, when I calculate my mpg based on odometer mileage and fuel used (from last full tank to re-fill amount in litres) it works out at between 18 to 19 mpg so dont trust your on board computer to be exact  :P. On a motorway run I have achieved 30mpg (calculated). But like you say driving styles will come into it. I don't think it's worth having the power if you're not going to use it.  :y

Thanks for your response it's good to know how it is on other Omega's. Yeah only adjusted cable but like you say I can probably live with it.

I am going to try and find a split rubber seal to put along the under edge of the bonnet just to stop it getting any worse.

Omega General Help / Bonnet adjustment
« on: 12 June 2010, 17:24:11 »
Hi all, just spent some time today adjusting my bonnet release catch as per the OOF maintenance guide. There seemed to be a lot of slack on the release catch cable before adjustment but it is now much more positive after just 5mm of adjustment. I did however expect the bonnet to pop up better which on all previous cars have done when the release catch is operated. On mine even after the bonnet release catch has been released the bonnet has to be lifted initially in order to get finger access to release the safety catch - is this normal on the Omega?  :-?

Also, I discovered that the under lip on the front of the bonnet is rubbing on the top of the plastic grill removing the paint and has started to rust  :( again is this normal? Anyone found a solution/fix?  :y

Omega General Help / Burping!
« on: 06 June 2010, 14:11:52 »
Hi all, I have read various articles referring to burping the coolant system - how is this done and is the header tank cap on or off. :-?

I have also read that the coolant system on the Omega will self bleed is this right? ;)

Omega General Help / Headlamp washers.
« on: 05 May 2010, 15:43:00 »
Hi all, stripped out my washer bottle today with help from Welung666 to investigate a leak under the front valance - thought it was a split seam on the washer bottle. On inspection I found the leak was coming the headlight washer pump. So, two options:-
1. Replace headlight washer pump - anyone know how much these are? (Not sure how necessary/effective the HL washers are. Other makes of cars with this option seem to have wipers as well).
2. Strip out the headlight washer system - (the windscreen washers have their own pump). I would need to replace the trim under the headlights as they have a hole for the HL washer jets. I would also need another washer bottle without the hole for the HL washer pump. The electrical connector for the HL washer pump could just be taped up to stop water ingress.

Any comments/ideas welcome.

www.autovaux.co.uk hire the locking kit out for £15/week plus return postage approx.£8.  ;)

Plus excellent prices on water pump and cambelt kit. :)

The OOF DVD is worth every penny - highly recommend. :y

Welung666 what a man! 8-) Just tried your technique and it was spot on :) I have been struggling with that for an age this morning and just after lunch tried your technique literally 15 secs and it was off.

Cheers  ;)

Yeah got those but I need to remove the trim under the headlights so the bumper when released will slide out. The trim just doesn't seem to want to let go and access is very restricted!

Omega General Help / Help - front bumper removal!
« on: 05 May 2010, 12:59:41 »
Hi all, I'm trying to get my front bumper off to investigate a leaking washer bottle. Following the Haynes manual but I cannot get the trim beneath the headlights off completely - it is just the last bit where it meets the front wing - I cant see any sort of clip. I have pulled but dont want to break the trim pieces.

Anyone else done this?
TIA

Thanks to Vx it's front bumper off to investigate further - I suspect the washer bottle has split on the seam and will need replacing.

Omega General Help / Water from front valance area.
« on: 01 May 2010, 15:50:21 »
Hi all, noticed a wet patch under the front valance. :-? Have heard about wet patches left by the air con but I hadn't been using it on the previous run out. Got down to investigate further and to may relief it was water and it smelt of windscreen wash so no real panic. :) Couldn't really see a great deal. Has anyone else had this sort of leak? Any advice welcome. :y

Omega General Help / Engine coolant change/flush.
« on: 04 May 2010, 09:27:55 »
Hi all, my mind has gone blank - I'm not a morning person! I am going to change my coolant from blue anti-freeze to Vauxhalls long life red anti-freeze. Can someone please direct me to the procedure on how to flush the coolant system. I understand that the V6 cannot be drained completely.

TIA.
