drove from Plymouth to Epsom this morning, EML light is on and off....

can feel wheh the sensor is not pickiing up, it feels like a misfire, it is frequent enough to keep the light on for most of the journey.

I have a feeling this one will need replacing rather than constantly bodging the wiring but i can't for the life of me find it, does anyone know where it is and how to get to it, i have looked from the top and bottom and can see the square root of diddly

Jamie, you say it is co-ax, this one isn't, it is a twin core cable with one of them insulated and the other not
Fault on knock sensor will retard that bank fully, hence run like a Fiesta.

Bank 1 sensor is behind alternator, bank 2 up near engine mount. I think you have to remove mount to get to it iirc. Not sure if A/C will be in the way.

I think 17 is bank 2.

the wire goes down between the top hose and dipstick tube and then disappears into the bowels of the engine.

I'm running on LGP so limp mode wouldn't have an effect on the LPG ecu, but it would still retard other aspects of the engine that it has control over.
if i flick it over to petrol then it does run like it has 90bhp, back to LPG and it takes off again

I damaged the sensor wire many moons ago when i did the rocker covers for the first time, it has been soldered but i have a feeling that the wiring is brittle where it has been bared back and left open to the elements for a while.

Replacement is on the cards and i am not looking forward to it, this might be a job for the garage

Omega General Help / Knock sensor, Trouble code 17
« on: 02 February 2008, 16:47:32 »
i have had iffy wiring on my knock sensor for as long as i can remember, now it has completely given up.

I can't get one for love nor money, i have however got 2 knock sensors from a V6 cav, the connector ends are different.

what does anyone think the chances are of taking the sensor i have, taking the end off with a few inches of wire, taking the end off the cav one and splicing the two together.

My understanding is that the sensor base would be the same, so long as i can get a good solder on the wire then surely it would work

oh yes.....and can anyone tell me how to route the cable on the replacement as it doesn't look like i will be able to get it to follow the same route as the original

HIDs are another name for xenons

Projectors are for halogens, the projector headlights where fitted from mini-facelift onwards and use halogen bulbs.

Tunnie. My Mig has what i would best describe as clear plastic lenses, but with what look like magnifying glasses & the dip & main beam are separate lenses, they shine with a blue top to the beam with rainbow colours too, the cut off from the beam is definite. My Migs a CD on an 02 reg. Would you know by my decription as to what they are or would someone have some pix they could post of the different lights  :y

that sounds like a Xenon/HID

Does the car have headlamp washers?

No  :-[ The side lights are in the main beam side though if this casts any ideas

What spec is your car? GLS or CD?

CDX / Elite's have HID's and as Jay says headlight washers.

The light will have a purple tinge and be more like day-light and normal car lights.

My Migs a CD, yes it does have a purple tinge & it is like day light. I'll take some pix & post them, infact i'm gona take pix of the whole car when the weather picks up

Humm usual CD spec is projectors. Did you buy second hand? someone could have fitted chav me fake HID's

No washer jets on the front bumper?  :-/

Yes 2nd hand. Just been out to the garage, she has the little wheel for manual adjustment. The plot thickens  :-/

sounds like projectors with 4000k bulbs then..

get some piccys of the light as it hits a wall or garage door

AS far as i know all miggys have the sides in with the main beam.

It sounds like you have conventional halogen/projector, HID equipped cars have got headlamp washers

Omega General Help / Re: OIL COOLER - REMOVAL OF
« on: 04 February 2008, 13:59:56 »
we did this with a Mk2 cav, the cooler had blown and the guy couldn't be bothered to sort it out.

The engine oil never got hot enough, unless he was ragging the hell out of it, he had to have the pipes made up and all in it was not the sucsess he wanted it to be

hi i have just bought a omega 2.0 with a body kit on it and the car needs a respray. the last person who had it has didn't have a clue and started the premier and then gave up and sold it to me.
dose anyone know someone that can spray cars. on a bit of a low budget . any help would be much appreciated.

many thanks james

Your biggest problem would be the fact that you want to paint a large area with cans, not very cost effective.

The second thing is cans are ok on smallish areas, but some of the panel work such as roofs and bonnets would take a lot of time and cans, not to mention that getting a consistant finish will be very difficult.

Last car i saw painted in cans was done in matt black, looked really good but was a bit out of the ordinary

changed discs and pads back and front approx 5000 miles  ago and am now experiencing quite voilent brake judder. surley these cant be warped already? anything else it could be?

Someone posted something a while back about brakes and 'warping' but to sum it up the discs don't warp they pick up a material from the pad that sticks on the disc and causes an imperfection.

In answer to your question though, yes you could have caused the disc to have an imperfection, it's not that hard believe it or not.
I have found genuine stuff to be more resilient to punishment. the after market stuff just isn't up to much when on a car such as an Omega

Omega General Help / Re: Pipercross ind kit

Been browsing around and found a Pipercross viper enclosed ind kit. Priced at £230ish. :o  Would look nice and shiney under the bonnet, but seems alot of money. Has anyone bought one, wondered if its worth the money :question

I have used one of these on vauxhall engines in the past, with good results as well....

Most cone filters draw their air from within the engine bay, this is hot air and so can create a performance loss as cold air is better/denser

The viper is a sealed unit, the ducting ensures that it gets cold air and it has some really good flow rates as well, it will not increase the noise that the engine makes in the same way a lot of the cone filters do.

If you want noise then no, if you want something that does the job very well then yes  :y
