Omega General Help / Re: Play in V6 water pump. How much is too much?
« on: 08 December 2015, 16:57:34 »
Seems it was the water pump. Happily there was a bleed hole (top surface, genuine GM) and with the pulley off and the system pressured it ran out a treat, even faster when the shaft was rotated.

Also happily the replacement pump (FAI, £47 from local factors) has a bleed hole and the pulley bolts did not need shortening.

Curious that the three pump mounting bolts were equal length. I'm sure I read somewhere (probably Haynes) they would be different lengths and should be replaced accordingly.

 ;) - glad you're sorted.   :y

If there's any play in the water pump, replace it.  It will only get worse and if the bearing does collapse, it will dump the coolant very quickly - spoken from experience! ;)

General Car Chat / Re: Paying deposit/car
« on: 03 December 2015, 01:58:44 »
How much is the deposit?

If it's say around £50 and you want the car and you believe he's genuine enough then that sounds reasonable enough to me.. There's always some element of risk with a despoit depends if you think the car is worth the risk :-\

Have you seen the car/owner in person?

Cant see the car until i go to pick it up but ive asked all the relevant questions ect . £100 deposit .

Guess you'd want a deposit if you were selling - always a level of risk paying any deposit, but if you want the goods its a no brainer.  Can't see why you need to ask this question on a forum  ???

Same for a lot of models - for recent Jags check Ford prices eg Ford price for rear parking sensors significantly less than same Jag parts.

Like most systems, some updates are flagged as can't be installed at the same time as others, this causes reboots to be required.

Perhaps the biggest "issue" with MS updates is the way it defaults (but overridable) to installing any outstanding updates when you shut down.  In fairness to MS, they probably realise that most users are stupid, and wouldn't otherwise install updates unless it was the default action.

But the need to install updates affects every system, Windows, Linux, BSD, Solaris, Mac OS, HP-UX, all of them.
ZX81 never needed updates  :P

Neither did C64

performance figures here

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/vauxhall/omega/saloon-1994/

2.5 manual 0-60 8.2 secs, 3.0 auto 0-60 9 secs.

Would be sensible to quote like for like figures rather than try to "massage" figures -

2.5 manual 0-60 8.2 secs, 3.0 manual 0-60 8.0 secs
2.5 auto 0-60 9.2 secs, 3.0 auto 0-60 9.0 secs

same source, same models (Elites)
