Omega General Help / Re: Tow Bar Electrics
« on: 25 February 2019, 19:08:34 »
there's also a brake relay up front behind the glove box or above the driver's feet (depends on how old the car is & I can't now remember  :-\) that supplies the trailers brake lights.
I bought one of those from AndyC when I fitted a towbar to my 03 Elite Saloon - I never did find the socket so it is still in my spares box (along with a new powersounder and an unopened tube of grey goo)

The biggest problem with systematic and institutional abuse in the name of goodness is the fact that if anyone in a position to do something philanthropic automatically has their motives questioned. Especially where children are concerned. Doesn't matter if it's simply giving Saturday mornings to coach kids football or buying a large chunk of property and setting up a summer camp... Someone will have something to say about why...

This must deter a lot of people from ever doing anything positive even if the have the means to.
Yep. If a small child comes anywhere near my cute little doggie, I run a mile.
Train it to bite ,em ;)

This photo might help you to locate the engine coolant temperature sensor.

Nice parking

(I assume the dealer parked it across two spaces to show you the MB way :D)

Mine does this fairly frequently.

Disconnecting the power resets it and it will accept the magazine again.

MrRog removed the retaining plates from the sides of the unit so it can be pulled out easily to disconnect the power.

I followed Kevin Wood's instructions to disable the security code so I don't have to enter it after disconnecting the power.
Quote
The procedure is as follows:

1) Disable code protection on the unit (optional).

I found it convenient to disable code protection on the CCR2006 before starting work. This is because I knew the unit would be in and out of the car a couple of times during the procedure and because I wanted to test it on the bench (without the MID connected!) once modified. I suspected that entering the code without a MID would not be easy.

The code can be disabled by powering up the unit with AS held down until a beep is heard, then using buttons 1,2,3 and 4 to change each of the digits displayed until the displayed code matches that on the car pass. Finally, AS should be held down once more until a beep is heard.

Removal of the code can be verified by powering up the radio and checking that "CODE" does not appear on the MID.

General Car Chat / Re: GPS week rollover
« on: 15 February 2019, 20:46:42 »
I went to the trouble of fitting a Ford branded factory navigation unit to SWMBOs 2002 Galaxy when she first got the thing 4 or 5 years ago.

It is a Blaupunkt RNS with a decent sized screen but it has a painful user interface and the newest available mapping is years old.

I gave up on it on a trip around France after I worked out how to download big chunks of mapping for Google Maps using WiFi

Since then we have driven round Ireland, New Zealand and Australia using Google Maps exclusively. A key advantage of a portable GPS for me is to be able to plan the next days driving while sitting indoors with a glass of beer rather than sitting in the car fighting a steam powered user interface

Omega General Help / Re: brake pads
« on: 13 February 2019, 23:00:00 »
The pads I have fitted to the front of my Omegas have all looked like the pads on the left (I have had three V6 petrol Omegas)

All the Omegas have the same front calipers (except for a few early 8 valve 2 litre petrol cars). I don't know what the pads for the 8 valve 2.0 look like :-\
