Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Climate question

The wiring is not the problem, you need climate control unit, climate condenser, hoses, valves etc.
Simply too big a job

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / xenon bulbs help?
« on: 19 March 2010, 15:20:19 »
Do these things degrade over time?
The ones on my mig are still factory fitted ones, and they don't seem pretty strong, but the light colour is still ok
Lenses could use a polishing but nothing urgent so I guess the bulbs are not that good anymore. Have no mig with xenons to compare anywhere near here

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Dip beam message??

You have three potential problems.
1. adjuster arm
2. sensor
3. level motor behind the headlight (nobody mentioned this one)
adjuster arm is the most probable cause and easy to inspect

I've got a chinese product (Eonon) would have fit a brand name if I had the money for it.
The controls are stupid, software is done by some morons who had no sense for logic, for normal things you need to use the remote, but it looks ok, price is ok and sounds ok.
I bought a 2 year old unit and it works like a charm.
Fitting it is a problem and steering wheel controls wont work on it.
If you have the money buy a brand name, chinese products seem to work ok, well mine does but still some things are reallly bad.
And last thing, place behind the dash is limited so installing it is a nightmare.
Luckily mine has a screen which rather sticks out so leaves the space behind, but some units are installed almost inline with the dash and this can be a big problem in a mig. Never seen such a big car with problems with space behind the dash :D

Ok Dave thanks for the info.

Have no idea about headunit, although I think all xf have the same  headunit. Think it is only navigation module missin (the part in the boot)

This is not an mig related question but will post here cause it is definitely  an electrical related.
My friend xas a XF with premium luxury equipment.
Looks like when he bought the car the dealer stole the gps module (rewriutten the contract and removed the gps module from the car).
The friend contacted the service in Austria and they told him the car had gps installed in factory as standard.
So when he called the same dealer and asked can he buy the module as an extra the dealer wanted 10,000 Euro-s for it  ;D
I really have no experience with the factory installed gps devices, but need to know some information.
What kind of gps are we talking here about?
If it is only some sort of module can you use some other similar module which will work with the car?
I know the questions are difficult but hopefully someone will be able to provide a little help

Dave wasnt illumination wire for only two things?
Either to turn on the lights of the stereo (but not the stereo itself), or to dimm the lights of the stereo automatically when the car lights are turned on?

No way that the brightness control of the instrument panel can be used to dimm the lights gradually on the aftermarket stereos.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Bose system

Not disputing your Ohms law calculations, but you are forgetting a major thing here.

If you put a 2 Ohm load on a Sony it will cause problems, often terminal. Irrespective of what the thing should do on paper, the Sony is ONLY designed to run at 4 Ohms.

Secondly - the output of the Sony when running correctly is vastly greater than the paper cones fitted to the Omega. The Ist generation Vauxhall speakers were raed at 8 Watts max, second generation rated at 15 Watts (common on the Omega) and when you consider that the Sony probably has a 50 Watt output, it doesn`t take a genuis to work out that the stereo can only operate at less than 20% of its capability before something goes bang.
I agree with everything you said Dave.
But only wanted to say that probably the speakers will go bang before the HU.
As for the speakers comparative output rating from memory when I wasn't sleeping during college classes  ;D  the speakers should be at least 30% more powerful than the amp running them to be on the safe side.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Bose system
« on: 01 February 2010, 09:39:58 »
Well I won't agree TheBoy with this last statement.
I know Bose is 2 ohm impedance and sony HU is definitely 4 ohm imp.
But if it is i high level Sony unit it will give some 27 watts rms per channel on 4 ohms.
If you use it on 2 ohm  speakers the power will double to 54 watts rms per channel theoretically.
It wont work well but can easily blow out old Bose speakers which cannot stand that amount of power either beacuse of age, design, etc.
BUT I also agree this isn't the way to go.
If you have Bose speakers and aftermarket HU throw them away and get a decent new pair of speakers

No actuallly it doesn'tlooks like Japanese thought you and Americans are the same ;D
