Omega General Help / Re: My on going knock Grrr Any ideas ?
« on: 30 July 2007, 09:27:38 »
Me and Gary decided it would not be the drop links as they normally only knock when your driving over speed humps and pot holes and this knock is when the car is not moving.

I was thinking last night that i could have a problem with the joint on the adjustable steering column as i have alot more play in the up and down, side to side than gary had in his steering wheel. And if my adjustable column joint has play i would get more wobble and vibration through it as it would have movment in the joint.

Does anyone know will a non adjustable steering column fit a facelift that has a adjustable column ? I know gary has a spare on his Elite he is breaking

Omega General Help / My on going knock Grrr Any ideas ?

Went over on sat to see gary (ffcgary1) in mitcham on sat to get a rear blind off him

While I was there me and Gary Tried invain to track my steering knock down again but could not find anything loose at all, we had my car on ramps with weight on the wheels and we both could feel the knock in the steering wheel and on all the steering components underneth.

I have always had a slight wheel wobble in the steering wheel at speed even before the knock appered. James thinks the knock is from the steering Box but he said it should not cause vibration or wobble.

I have replaced so it cant be any of the below

Wishbones
Full Trackrods
Top Suspenstion Mounts and Bearnings
Brake Discs & pads
Front rear tires plus balance
Full Geo Setup camber toe and so forth

The one thing that has not been replaced is the center tie bar (track bar) but we both checked it and it did not seem to have anyplay at all.
The Idler Arm has no Movment and is solid

Went to Vauxhall and they said I would never get rid of the knock which i cant believe

the Steering Wheel had abit of play back and forth and up and down much more than gary's Omega had but also at Vauxhall i was told this is normal  :-? :-?

I have three things left to change

Centre Tie Bar
Steering Column
Steering Box
Oh and to swap the fronts with the rears to see if that helps any to find out if a wheel is buckled, which i dont think they are as the guy who balanced them all span the front wheels on there own with no tires on to see if they were ok and they were

Anyone have any ideas I dont want to change the Steering Box As a new one is around the 1700 pounds mark and it looks like a pig of a job to remove.

I have spent enough trying to sort this out and cant afford to be just replacing bit at random guessing if its right to replace.

I can live with the knock but its the vibration and wobble i cant its not always there just about 7 times out of 10

The Stalling problem is an easy fix if its just breathers and ICV need cleaning could also be a air leak check around for hissing sounds

But it sounds like your power steering pump is on its way out you may need another one

Omega General Help / Re: squealing brakes

When I first Got My Omega I had really Loud front brakes the pads were brand new but the disks were not and this was causing the problem as the disks were scored and the pads new once the pads had worn into the shape of the score on the discs to sounds stopped.

Omega General Help / Drain Hole Passenger Side
« on: 23 July 2007, 20:42:32 »
I was one of many who had water in the passenger well Boooo

Unblocked the passenger side drain point I had about 3 inch of water in there.
Does the water get into the passanger well throught the pollen filter area ? I checked the Pollen filter and it was dry, I am alittle worried about the climate fan being damaged. If its Blowing air now Is it ok Sounds daft i know just want to know.

Car stinks now its going to take some time to get rid of that smell Yuck

Ill keep my eye on this drain point to make sure it does not lock again

I have a 65 or 70 litre tank in my car and i can only get 55 litres in it.

Its a safety Thing so the Gas can Expand and pressure and stuff.

There is also a pressure valve on the tank for venting gas for say you fill up at night when its cold the LPG takes up less room and then if you have not used much and its a Hot morning the gas expands and needs to be vented to help not stress the tank under pressure

Omega General Help / Re: Seat pretensioner Question
« on: 22 July 2007, 00:19:47 »
I have been reading about this red key is it attached pretensoner and it just slots in ?

I hate messing with Pretensoners and air bags as i dont like loud bangs lol

I know there were 2 types of Pretensoner older mechanical onesand newer Pyro ones.

The MV6 seats to be fitted are facelift with airbags so should be the newer type, Just a case of swaping over the Pretensoner with the red key in and the Battery disconnected and a small wait before anything is touched

Omega General Help / Seat pretensioner Question
« on: 21 July 2007, 23:27:43 »
Hi Chaps Quick Question About seat pretensioner

I am Buying some MV6 Seats for my Car and the Chap I am buying them off Kindly offered to take them out and when I phoned him he said the pretensioner on the drivers seat had gone off when he was removing the wiring to it. I asked Him if he had disconnected the Battery and he had not I guess this is why it fired. He said it really smelt.

My Question Is are all pretensioner's the same ? Can I take the pretensioner off my normal CD cloth seats and replace it with the fired pretensioner off a leather MV6 drivers seat ? And how Hard is it to do ?

Thanks
Craig

Off the top of my head about 800 DIY and 2000 by a garage. with the newer systems not really much loss Martin Is The LPG man he does DIY converstions on his cars.

I bought my 2000 w reg Megga with LPG 62k on the clock for 2,500 but my LPG system is an old Mixer Type not an injector type like the newer systems
