Since getting the Omega I don't mind speed bumps much, then again the Vectra I drove before was so slammed you couldn't get your foot under the sills, I just learned ways to negotiate the things, didn't want to raise the coilovers I liked the way it looked  ::)

I get many mk2 Jaguars in my place of work, for a car of that era I find them quite nice to drive and being 21 I am used to most modern cars, we get some mint examples come into my place including the Daimler V8 version, though the 2.4 version was a little underpowered for the road.

Today I fitted a new ABS ECU thanks to Darth Loo-Knee having it on my doorstep within 2 days, Gave the car a full service and changed the positive battery clamp due to a loose crimped connector causing symptoms similar to those of an air leak, also discovered that my HBV is leaking so thats next on my list of things to do.

When driving the engine will be under more load, hence any blowing will be more noticeable while driving!

I know I have seen this car in the gallery before, I remember seeing a DTi with a large jap style back box and the drift sticker on the boot lid, can't recall the name though.

I checked the crimped terminals today, the negative terminal seems fine however I am able to wiggle the positive cable around in the terminal so I will try and rectify this first, I'm guessing it will be easier to buy new terminals with clamps on the end instead? I'm thinking I will replace both to avoid any further problem with these terminals.

While driving along today my ABS and TC lights came on and I lost me speedo, I know this is common for ABS ECU failure, however the ABS ECU was replaced with a known good one not a great deal of time ago, this was also happening intermittently.

When I got home I read the codes and none were stored, while looking at the measuring blocks I noticed that my alternator is faulty, with loads on the charge was barely reaching 13V and sometimes was as low as 12V sometime a little under, and it was not more than 13.5V and I believe that the optimum charge rate is between 13.8 and 14.4V, changing the revs made little or no difference to the charge voltage. I then noticed that as soon as the voltage reached 13V the lights would go out every time, when the lights were back on the charge rate would be below 13V again.

What I would like to know is if anyone here has had any experience where a faulty alternator has thrown up ABS and TC problems as in work I had an S-Type Jag which was throwing up ABS and Gearbox problems which were caused by a faulty alternator.

I have Unipart wishbones fitted to mine, got them at £27 each through work, the rear bush seems to be of a much better design to me and seems less likely to fail, was cheaper than the previous pattern part I fitted which last 5 days before the rear bush failed, no complaints with the Unipart ones so far.

Can someone tell me if the manual gearknob just twists off to remove or is there some other way? only asking as mine is looking a bit worn and would like to replace it.

I agree sound like curb feelers. Maybe passenger side only because you can see well enough when the drivers side is near the curb? Not sure. I think they are often used just to accessorise rather than for a practical purpose.

It is common for them to only be fitted to the passenger side in America as this is the side that is often closest to the curb, though sometimes they are fitted to both sides and sometimes they are fitted just near one of the front whees, majority of people fitting them now just fit them to try and keep the 50s look as they were fitted to many car in the 50s.

Sounds like curb feelers to me, a lot of americans like to fit them to classic cars, they make a scraping noise when you are close to a curb so that they do not get too close and scuff the wheels. Do they look similar to these by any chance?

My uncle has a very nice 3.0 V6 Jag (2001) that he never uses and might well flog to me if I asked him. The temptation is huge. Damn bloody MV6. It's let me down at the time when I really, really need it the most  >:( >:(

As tempting as it may sound I would avoid the Jag, being a 2001 I assume it is either going to be an S-Type or an X-Type I work at a Jaguar specialist and autobox problems and bushes are very common on the S-Type, at £50 a bush and 3 bushes each side at the rear this can get pricey as they rarely fail one at a time.
It is common for the Rear ARB bushes and rear radius arms to fail on the X-Types, the radium arms can be pretty pricey, on the majority of them lately I have noticed that the rear trailing arm bushes are now also starting to fail, It is also common for the transfer boxes to fail on these.

The rear brake pipes on the X-Types seem prone to serious corrosion along with the front brake pipes on the S-Types so which ever it is it could also start to give you a load of grief and end up costing you a fortune, mileage doesn't tend to play a big factor in tese problems, I have seen these bushes fail on cars with sub 40k miles on the clock.
