General Discussion Area / Is there a supreme being??
« on: 28 October 2009, 23:36:21 »
This thermal footage was recorded from an allied gunship from a mile or more away.  No rounds were fired by the aircraft. The problem solved itself with no allied intervention. Some folks were trying to bury an IED made from a 155 mm artillery shell. Evidently they lost the instruction manual.  Best turn the sound up.....

Got the estate tested today.  Aside from the need for the tester/garage to use handwritten test pass after telephone calls to VOSA as the garage computer kit failed, tester said he was impressed with the car.  All absolutely tip top and not a sniff of an advisory...

Thats the (hand written, 13 month) ticket!!   ;D

General Discussion Area / Conker comp
« on: 14 September 2009, 22:29:21 »
Inlight of the forthcoming season and, virtual as we are, how about a virtual conker comp??

Post up a pic of your prize specimen, suitably varnished/pickled/baked/dried in the crack of yer grandads harris/whatever BUT.......

.... you MUST have a pic complete with a ruler or grid square so we (admins and the great unwashed!) can judge and a poll can be created to suit.  ;D

Kinda gets shot of the strings too short/thick/stretchy argument but introduces other side arguments, subject to admin adjudication as required.....   ;)

Thats me finally home after a wee country treck in the Luxobarge.

A gnats chuff short of 1900 miles since a week past Monday, calling at Carlisle, Fulham, WIM, Fulham, Newent, Tintagel, Devon & Cornwall and latterly, York due to some really groggy mist/fog on the SW coast.

Quite enjoyable, although the other half was disappointed at D&C.  She was expecting a 'chocolate box' type village scenario but all she got was the Normany-esque 'Bocage' hedgerows - http://www.dday-overlord.com/eng/bocage_war.htm

Liked York/Harrogate though.  Nice wee corner of the world.

Anything happening on here?  no scandal or insurrection?N

General Discussion Area / forum language
« on: 17 August 2009, 21:48:56 »
Grumpy git time and tee'ing myself up for potential abuse....   :(

OOF is primarily a blokey site for talking assorted 'dangle berries' about Omega and other Top Geary style things, there are also a number of female and junior members who also enjoy the cameraderie and banter.

Without going down the granny knows best/PC route, we request that members use language here that does not potentially offend.

A swear filter is inbuilt into OOF but, as we all can see, its easily circumvented by use of fly letters and other symbols.  Without wanting to impose draconian swear filter measures again, can we please use the language of common decency?

Not all who frequent here live/work on building sites or workshops where foul language is the norm.  At the same time, they know its there, and just prefer to talk in a decent adult fashion without resorting to playground emphasis.

Have recently discovered this delicacy, perhaps best consumed of a late evening with an appropriate glass of your preferred....

Minted lambs ribs or bacon ribs, at a quid a pop.  Brill chilled.....   ;)

Anyone else tried them??   8-)

General Discussion Area / Dear Darling
« on: 01 July 2009, 20:20:52 »
Its an e-mail forward but none the less amusing for that....

Dear Mr. Darling,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing Britain's economy.   Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new British CAR. Twenty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime rate fixed

5) Buy £50 of alcohol / tobacco a week there's your money back in duty / tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

General Discussion Area / red ink
« on: 30 June 2009, 13:31:26 »
A question for you legal/shopping/banker types that frequent on here....

A friend was signing his point of sale docket at the local garage yesterday and he happened to sign in red pen as it was the first one that came out his pocket (teacher type, always lots of pens.....) and the cashier required him to resign in black ink.     :-/

On querying this, was told that the taxman would not accept it as it was in red and, further, it is not legal to sign cash documents in red.

I know that accountants use red/green inks when tallying accounts but never heard of this.  On looking at the web, appears to be somewhat of an urban myth.

Anyone confirm or otherwise, with links to a recognised place of fact?

As above.

Some of the sigs are growing almost by the day and some avatars are mahoosive.  Have already deleted a few as some folks have read my PM requests but ignored the content.

Please crop yours if it exceeds the guidelines to save admins deleting it.
