General Discussion Area / pain in the rear
« on: 20 June 2010, 17:55:05 »
 ::)

The following is the content of just one of at least 2 - * - similarly mannered threads that I have read since my return from the Lakes meet an hour or so ago.  Both are similar by similar participants.

* - edit.  Now count at least 6 very recent threads.....

To say that it is disappointing conduct by adults would be a gross understatement.....

I have not yet discussed the course of action that I am about to undertake with the remainder of the Admin Team but, that said, similar matters were the subject of a 'meeting' this forenoon and the result of which I feel bears a strong similarity.

I refer Tunnie and Peachy to the forum guidelines above each section and, specifically, on how to behave to others.

Members being offensive to other members will not be tolerated. Offensive or abusive public threads or private messages will be looked in to and appropriate action taken by the Moderators.

DON'T USE CAPITALS!  LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE SHOUTING!!

Peachy and Tunnie.  Consider yourselves each issued with a yellow card, seing as how it is Football that is the talk of the moment.  As in football, you get one warning thereafter you are sent off.

Bottom line - agree to disagree and/or keep out of each others way on the forum if you cannot be civil to each other.  If you dust up against each other again in a similar fashion, I will ban one or other or both.

Matter, hopefully, closed.   :y

General Discussion Area / Lakes meet - regional variations
« on: 14 June 2010, 20:48:45 »
Just me casually throwing a wee spanner in the prospective works here.....   ;)

Anyone up for bringing a wee bit of regional food/drink to the upcoming meet at the Lakes?

I know that there will be malt (ask me how I know ...  ::)  ) but....

Thinking on an idea from another thread.  What about your local micro brewery?  I know that there are more than a few on here that like their ale (and thats not Wife Beater or other mass produced stuff) that would be willing to share?  I know I'm more than willing to bring some fresh from my 'local' - http://www.fyfebrewery.co.uk/ - so, anyone else interested/willing?

Sent to me by an American friend.  Old but worth the reposting...

PUNS FOR THE EDUCATED

1. A thief broke into the local police station and stole all the toilets and urinals, leaving no clues. A spokesperson was quoted as saying, "We have absolutely nothing to go on."

2. Evidence has been found that William Tell and his family were avid bowlers. Unfortunately, all the Swiss league records were destroyed in a fire... and so we'll never know for whom the Tells bowled.

3. A man rushed into a busy doctor's office and shouted, "Doctor! I think I'm shrinking!" The doctor calmly responded, "Now, settle down. You'll just have to be a little patient."

4. A marine biologist developed a race of genetically engineered dolphins that could live forever if they were fed a steady diet of seagulls. One day, his supply of the birds ran out so he had to go out and trap some more. On the way back, he spied two lions asleep on the road. Afraid to wake them, he gingerly stepped over them. Immediately, he was arrested and charged with transporting gulls across sedate lions for immortal porpoises.

5. Back in the 1800's the Tate's Watch Company of Massachusetts wanted to produce other products, and since they already made the cases for watches, they used them to produce compasses. The new compasses were so bad that people often ended up in Canada or Mexico rather than California. This, of course, is the origin of the expression: "He who has a Tate's is lost!"

6. King Ozymandias of Assyria was running low on cash after years of war with the Hittites. His last great possession was the Star of the Euphrates, the most valuable diamond in the ancient world. Desperate, he went to Croesus, the pawnbroker, to ask for a loan. Croesus said, "I'll give you 100,000 dinars for it." "But I paid a million dinars for it," the King protested. "Don't you know who I am? I am the king!" Croesus replied, "When you wish to pawn a Star, makes no difference who you are."

7. An Indian chief was feeling very sick, so he summoned the medicine man.
After a brief examination, the medicine man took out a long, thin strip of elk rawhide and gave it to the chief, telling him to bite off, chew, and swallow one inch of the leather every day. After a month, the medicine man returned to see how the chief was feeling. The chief shrugged and said, "The thong is ended, but the malady lingers on."

8. A famous Viking explorer returned home from a voyage and found his name missing from the town register. His wife insisted on complaining to the local civic official who apologised profusely saying, "I must have taken Leif off my census."

9. There were three Indian squaws. One slept on a deer skin, one slept on an elk skin, and the third slept on a hippopotamus skin. All three became pregnant. The first two each had a baby boy. The one who slept on the hippopotamus skin had twin boys. This just goes to prove that... the squaw of the hippopotamus is equal to the sons of the squaws of the other two hides.

10. A sceptical anthropologist was cataloguing South American folk remedies with the assistance of a tribal Brujo who indicated that the leaves of a particular fern were a sure cure for any case of constipation. When the anthropologist expressed his doubts, the Brujo looked him in the eye and said, "Let me tell you, with fronds like these, you don't need enemas

General Discussion Area / A political question
« on: 09 May 2010, 22:52:26 »
Any of you long enough of tooth to remember the legal sticky thread we used to have?

Any of you sick to the back teeth of politiking and would like to (not) see or hear any more than they have to?

A POSSIBLE solution to Gen Diss getting swamped with political bits and bobs, given the current over run of the Election, is the creation of the above on a temp/trial basis.

Will add a poll and let it run for a few days to get a general feeling before the Admin Team decide whether its a good idea - or simply a corner for ignoring!

General Discussion Area / Car insurance
« on: 24 April 2010, 13:06:28 »
Mrs H21 just bought another car (Ford Fusion 1.6 CDTi - her choice, certainly not mine!) and been doing the rounds of comparing ins quotes.

She has 9 years plus no claims to her credit, no claims or convictions, and we want myself and the two kids (27 and almost 25!!) on the policy so that we have a 'hospital' car available, should one or other of our respective cars be in dock at some stage.

Now my son has an SP30 gained in 2007 whilst doing almost 70 in a 60 in his (then) Metro and is a few months short of being 25.

What amazes us thus far is the varience in quotes.  Cheapest is circa £440 from the Admiral/Elephant/Diamond bunch (who are the same company anyway) through a bunch of companies I have never heard of in the £5-600 bracket, up to a grand plus.

SAGA wanted £550 or so (but not with my son on the policy) and even Ford Insurance themselves wanted £700.

I realise there are introductory rates and all that but it is a fair old difference for what is, in effect, a granny bus!!    ;D

General Discussion Area / Monty Python alive and well.....
« on: 16 March 2010, 21:17:53 »
There was an oil tanker spillage on August 19th, 2007 off the coast of Australia when a tanker split in two, dumping 20,000 tons of crude oil.

Senator Collins, then a member of the Australian Parliament, appeared on a TV news programme to reassure the Australian public.

Monty Python?  Eat your heart out.....

Politicians, don't you just love 'em!!
