General Discussion Area / I broke my PC today

My old desktop.

It started smoking from somewhere around the system board, then promptly locked up.  Oddly, wouldn't boot after that.

Do you reckon its toast?

I know I have swapped a few out, so if anyone has one lying around, can they post up picture of back of it, showing connector and bulbs.

Mrs TheBoy is off for one of her craft weekends in the morning, so is busy ironing and packing.

I've been busy fixing her mates PC.

Just realised, no tea yet, so rang up and waiting for a pizza man to delivery 14 inches on lovelies....

If there is demand from Newent attendees, I will do a proper quiz - ie, pen and paper!?

Might try and be clever, and run it simultaneously with an online one for those not attending...

Fix the bloody shower!

Awoken in the night by the sound of fast dripping water.  Soon located it to it dripping out of the shower valve.  Had to turn off the water - cold was easy, couldn't work out how to do the hot.  But turning off cold stopped the leak.

Having remembered by mum had a similar problem with her Aqualisa shower a few years ago, and spookily enough discussing it at work a couple of weeks ago, I suspected it was the cartridge.  No idea what type mine took, though, so had to strip it down and check.  As suspected, it was the cheapie manual type.

So, woke up this morning to her asking me what I'd done to the shower ::).

Had to go to Birmingham for work today, so had her ringing around plumbers merchants trying to locate the cartrudge in stock somewhere, and I swung by and picked one up on my way home.

Sorted out isolating the hot water, then changed the cartidge.  All went OK, though removing seal at back of shower body was a bit tedious, and resealing the wall plate was never going to be my strong point (and will have a 2nd go tomorrow - might have wiped away a shade too much), but its cured the leak :)

Pizza on order, I'm starving!

I have found a small stock of ones I forgot we had  ;D

Bit larger than normal (24" as opposed to 18").

Available now in the OOF shop, specifically http://shop.omegaowners.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=19

Hopefully, the standard 18" ones will be available again after Newent.

Seeing as I know Tunnie went to a beer festival yesterday, and by all accounts had a sherry too many, I felt it was my duty to find a nice nasty job for him today....

So at midday, I turn up to be greeted by a very pale looking Tunnie, and ask for the use of his (level) garage to change ATF - a job I absollutely detest.

Get the MV6 up on some ramps at the front, but it turns out I'd too 'well built' to fit under enough to get to back sump, so I volunteer Tunnie ;D

Everything went to plan, though took much longer than the 2-3hrs I'd expected.  Also, in my devious plan, Tunnie got covered in ATF ::).  I have absolutely no idea how, but my hair stinks of the stuff as well, even though I've washed it twice now.

The old stuff was dark brown, but not burnt, and magnet had the normal amount of sludge on it.

Box now even smoother, so was probably due (150k, no history of it being done).

Thanks again Tunnie - its a job I really hate.   I think I may owe you a climate update. And a beer.  :y :y :y

I had intended to tidy up the garage, as I have been for weeks.

Got sidetracked into servicing the mower again (sure I've done it this year, but wouldn't start, so did it again).  Spent ages looking for a spark plug, ended up putting old one back in.

Once grass cut, thought I ought to change the filters in the tractor. Air filter was black, but had been in there over a year (after Project TB2's first engine swap).  Fuel filter - a pig to remove on these, as some silly idiot mounted it too close to chassis rails.  Evans Halshaw provided the wrong bloody filter, so the old one had to go back on for now.  Its been on over a year, but I think it needs changinging.  Still, its had a can of diesel magic through it...

Took it out around my normal test route, managed 13mpg over the 10m route ::), though my brakes stood up much better than Tunnie's did the other week ::)

Started clearing the garage, but stopped, as I thought rather than throw out the tractor spares, see if anyone wants any bits first.

So another day, and still not much headway in the garage...
