Omega General Help / FUEL SMELL?
« on: 08 August 2010, 19:06:13 »
Hi Guys,

Need some advice please....

I've got an exhaust emmisions light on and it comes back with P0420 as the fault code? Any ideas what's causing this/

Secondly, I seem to have a fuel smell that seems to be coming from underneath the car and through the air vents when I have them open. I haven't noticed any leaks under the car?

Are the two things related?

I appreciate any help, Thanks

Cheers for that mate, I will get it checked... Could it be related to the engine light on with code P0420 present? I reckon my CAT is playing up or on it's way out? Wondered if smell was coming from there.

Cheers for the advice guys,

I haven't noticed any leaks at all and the car seems to be running fine with no apparent fuel loss etc.. I'm concerned as to what is causing the petrol smell as you can smell it more whilst stationary with windows open.. It does seem to be coming through the vents to?

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Thanks for your reply. Any idea how much it would cost for the pressure test you refer to?

Am I right in thinking HG failure is rare on V6 Omegas?

Cheers.........

Omega General Help / WHITE MAYO. HEAD GASKET FAILURE?
« on: 02 November 2008, 09:30:31 »
Morning Guys,

I've noticed some white mayo in the oil filler cap / neck. I'm not overheating but do seem to have to top up the coolant and oil every two weeks or so. Is my head gasket on its way out or could it be something else? I haven't noticed any oil or water leaks or oil in the coolant tank etc..

Thanks in advance...

Thanks, any idea how much I'm looking at to repair either OC or HG. I'm no mechanic so I have no idea. In the meantime, if i it OC is it still safe to drive?. Paul

Omega General Help / V6 HEAD GASKET OR OIL COOLER FAULT?
« on: 01 November 2008, 14:36:08 »
Hi Guys,

I need your help please! I have a 98 R v6 CDX. Just noticed some white mayo like gunge in the oil filler cap. The car isn't overheating or smoking but is using alot of coolant and oil ( a litre or so every 2 weeks ). I cannot see any obvious leaks or oil in the water expansion tank. Am I looking at a suspect head gasket or oil cooler fault?

Cheers in advance. Paul

Hi, thanks for the replies....

I cannot see any leak anywhere but agree I am losing around a litre or so each week. I cannot see any blue or white smoke whilst idling or driving. I get the check oil and coolant level warnings on the computer and do did they are in deed very low. Its a strange one as I cannot see any apparent leaks under the car......

Cheers Guys.

Not that I am aware of. To be honest I'm a little clueless on cars. I've been told it could be Head gasket, HBV, Oil coolers etc.. Not sure what to think or how much I'm looking at to repair.. Thanks for your reply

Hi,

Can anyone help?

I seem to be loosing coolant and oil following mainly motorway journeys. I get the check messages on the computer and when I check the levels they are both empty. I then top up and the same happens the week after etc. I don't seem to be overheating and cannot see any apparent leaks under the car or whilst it's being stood on my drive etc?

I've checked for poss head gasket symptoms i.e water in oil, oil in water, brown gunge and mayo on oil filler cap but these seem to be ok.

Can anybody help me please?

Thanks,

Paul
