Hi there.
Some (or maybe all, I don't know) Omegas with V6 engines are equipped with auxiliary water pump below coolant expansion tank. This water pump is controlled by air conditioning electronic control unit. Some sort of booster pump, it helps coolant go through heater, supposed to be quite useful during Russian winter :)
I have doubts if it works on my car. Does someone know conditions when A/C tirns it on?
I've tried to switch A/C to "High", got no reaction, the pump doesn't work, and zero voltage on its electrical connector.
Electrically it's controlled by Infineon BTS711L1 chip, it might be out of order, but before I begin soldering this and that I'd like to make sure it's dead.

I was under the impression that the auxiliary water pump doesn't switch on unless engine is hot and engine is turned off. I think it was to do with using the heater for warmth in winter when the car is parked with engine off.
If I'm wrong some one will put me right.

I was under the impression that the auxiliary water pump doesn't switch on unless engine is hot and engine is turned off. I think it's something to do with stopping the coolant over boiling by keeping it circulating for a while. Or it was to do with using the heater for warmth in winter when the car is parked with engine off.

It's another auxiliary water pump you are mentioning. This pump is installed near radiator, vertically on its right side. And, yes, you are right, this pump starts pumping when coolant temperature is above 95C and engine is turned off.
But it isn't the pump I'm interested in :)

Spot on :y
Effectively t's a handy place to be storing a spare pump ;D
Easiest way to test it, get the engine up to temperature, with the climate set to LO. Then turn the ignition off and press the driverside temperature knob. Display should light up, turn temp upto HI. Cabin fans should kick in on max and blow hot air into the cabin. Now check that the auxiliary pump is running :y

This I've tried too pressing "Auto" on A/C control panel with engine off. No reaction, no pumping.

Interesting. Thanks, I'll try this out :y

For clarity, the pump attached to the radiator is purely to move coolant across the radiator when hot...
The other pump, next to the coolant tank is as Andy says for maintaining coolant flow and allowing the climate control to be used when the car is stopped, engine off :y

Shouldn't it also start when I set climate control to "Hi" with running engine?

EPC lists it (9120117) as an additional pump for cold weather package. Is it really fitted to UK spec cars? Can't say I remember seeing it in mine.

According to VIN code, my car is made for Germany, maybe this is the reason it has this pump.

No... engine running and that pump running are mutually exclusive... it's sole function is to mimic the waterpump when the engine is off ;)

Pretty much standard on any V6 with digital climate control, certainly mid facelift onwards... fitted to every 3.2 I have ever owned, but neither of the four pots iirc...

Allrignt, but on pre-1999 Omegas this pump works in an opposite manner. According to circuit diagram it pumps only when ignition is on.
https://g-a.d-cd.net/928c612s-960.jpg M57 motor is the pump we are talking about.
I mean, wouldn't it be more logic for the pump on post-1999 Omegas to work more or less the same way?
By the way, "N", "S" and "FIN" below on the picture, I think, stands for Norway, Sweden and Finnland?
-
I may be wrong about the ignition being off, but that pump should never run with the engine running :y
Working from memory, but I believe that it's covered in the owners manual ;)
-
It wasn't fitted to my MFL Elite. The cruise gubbins were under the header tank on mine :y

Just been and looked - It's not fitted to my car - Y reg 2001 30XE Facelift Elite with CC. There is nothing under the expansion tank.

M57 would run all the time the ignition is on - The F15 line is just switched ignition. No idea what it's function is, but it's not controlled by the climate control unit in any way. If M57 is the pump you're talking about, then it should be live and running whenever the ignition is on. It's not even got it's own relay or fuse. If it doesn't run, then it's either faulty wiring of a duff pump.
Haynes shows M57 on both pre and post facelift cars, but only for N, FIN and S - which yes means Norway, Sweden and Finland

Must just be fitted to the dbw v6s then :-\ In which case haynes won't show it...
-
The only way I've ever been able to make mine run is testing it with laptop attached to car - it does work then.
No combination of Climate settings, engine on or off make it run otherwise. I would like to be able to use it when parked but not a high priority!
