Welding season opened!!
« on: 11 February 2017, 16:22:08 »

Hi all

Even it was a little fresh outside (4,5°C) I started the welding season on my Opel Omega winter Caravan.

Location rear right with all typical Omega problems, but not so bad as on the left side (I did the left side two years ago)

This I started from. I decided to begin with the side wall. There was no hole, the inner parts looked not so bad.

Because I was in fear, that rust was located between the upper and lower side wall, I cutted out the complete area.

Fitting the repair - part

No Presto!

Right of the new sheet, the new outer arch will be connected. I created this sheet today.

But I think, there will be also some rust problems with the inner arch. So tomorrow I will open the ara to look inside.

I will report.

Rolf

Looks great Rolf!

A bit of an artist with the metal you are  :y

Nice job.

Do you have a press set up to bend the sheets or is it all by hand/hammer?

Hi

I only have a welder, a flex, a vice and different kind of hammers.

Hopelessly cars are a challenge! It s a great joy for me to build something out of scratch.

I love my Omegas  ::)

Looking awesome mate.

If forced I can weld two pieces of thin metal together. But I hate it. I reckon it's a natural talent and I just don't have the ability.

Well done

It's just practice. And is one of the reasons why you should start welding thin metal

Can I ask what you mean by 'a flex'? I think something was lost in translation ..... though I'm  always impressed when someone can use a forum that's not their native language  :y

Got to be a folder, or brake. Doing long folds hammering on metal clamped between two pieces of angle is really tedious if you need them to look good.

@ webby, thank you very much. Motivation is needed on this projekt.

@ Andy and Nick

A flex is a nice little machine to cut or grind metal. Thought the word is international. The German word for it is "Winkelschleifer". What it is in English?

You see my "flex" in front of my Omega Caravan. The picture was taken two years ago, when I did "a little repair" on the left arches.

What went on today, I will report later this evening.

Usually just a 'grinder'. Or if you're stupid enough to run it without the guard in place, 'death wheel' ;D

Or dropping on your face with the guard fitted, aka the nearlydeath wheel :-[
